For traditional routine applications using soluble proteins, surface acoustic wave biosensors give equal performance sensitivity compared to surface plasmon resonance.

However, unlike surface plasmon resonance which uses optical detection, the surface acoustic wave approach opens up opportunities for unique high added value applications including:

  • Label-free kinetics on cells
  • Protein-small molecule measurements
    • In high DMSO concentrations
    • Conformational changes
  • Use of crude biological samples with little or no purification

Systems have small bench-top footprints, are simple to operate and require little maintenance
